Jet lag? What jet lag?
…..should be getting used to this jet setting about…..so not sure why we felt tired enough to nap for 3 hours this afternoon…consequently the world in the vicinity of Denver is being observed (or at least listened to) at 3.30am on a Saturday morning…..
It’s weird to see stalactites of ice hanging from the underneath of cars, even those that are parked well under cover, it’s even weirder seeing snow that you can’t make snowballs from, that when you pick a handful up weighs practically nothing, and sublimes when it melts because the air is so dry. Patches that were just damp on the road yesterday are solid ice today, and you can skate down the sidewalk…unless you are wearing shoes that don’t slip, in which case you laugh at those who are skating around…chiropractors must do a roaring trade in fixing wrenched backs around here in winter!!
Decided a scouting expedition was in order at lunchtime to check out the hotel ChaserCon is being held at….drove through Aurora…yes, that Aurora….and from a very brief foray, decided to go along the freeway instead and avoid the area completely.
Denver freeways could be described simply as a system of multiple merges……often 2 lanes at a time….there’s a roads planner somewhere who must have been able to swivel his head further than the majority of people in Colorado, because its almost impossible to see who is trying to merge with you until you are at a point where you are both trying to decide who got there first…..at 55 mph! On your other side there’s a truck carrying what appears to be half a bridge…taking up 2 lanes, being followed by a pickup with a flashing light and wide load sign who is trying desperately to keep up with him – the truck is travelling faster than any other vehicle on the road!
There have been 2 trips to Walmart so far….still haven’t seen anyone dressed in anything stranger than in Melbourne – maybe the ‘creatures’ haven’t got as far west as Colorado yet……I reactivated the US Verizon phone in one store…they leant me one of their computers to do it with……Americans can be incredibly helpful…….except ……when you might be looking for something in Walmart and upon querying a shop assistant, they tell you that they have the item in a section far, far away from where they are, so that when you discover that they haven’t got it after all you can’t remember where they were to go back and berate them for their misdirection….
So that was our Friday…..the snow has almost completely melted, the wind changed direction around midnight and it warmed up to 26F!!
